At the end of each stage, the player must defeat a boss to progress. The game is made up of several levels divided into different screens. In each level, the player must navigate the environment, collect apples, overcome obstacles and reach the end point to move on to the next level. The game puts the player in the role of the Kid, who must run, jump, shoot and double jump in his way throughout a variety of levels to beat the bosses. Would recommend to anyone who was turned off from the original guy.I Wanna Be the Guy (also known as IWBTG) is a 2D Adventure, Platform and Single-player video game with Action elements created by Independent video game Development.
Plus, with IWPO support coming in update 1.1, there is even more fun to be had through racing friends and just messing around in the giant map. It's a wonderful passion project that is sure to leave anyone who plays it enjoying the whole experience. One could argue that this should be the new bar for what makes an adventure game good, however this is just the original guy but polished and the level design pales in comparison to some other more modern fangames. It's a no brainer for anyone who has played fangames. I Wanna Be The Guy Remastered is a no brainer for anyone who is new to fangames. Props to them for making me actually want to fight Kraidgief. They feel more lively than ever, and somehow less stiff and choppy than the original. Unlike the stage design, however, the remaster team did a wonderful job updating these bosses for the modern fangame player. For what it's worth, the levels are very nostalgic, however beyond that they don't have much substance as the original was very rudimentary.Ī lot of the things I said about the level design gets echoed in my thoughts on the Boss Design. Every death felt like it was my fault, rather than just a struggle to even jump with the character. Unlike the original guy, however, nothing in this felt like it was actively going against me. Again, this is at no fault of the Remaster team, it is just how it is. They did a near perfect replica of the original level design, updating some moments to be compatible with the updated physics, however the original level design wasn't incredibly stellar to begin with. I feel bad for docking points on this since the level design wasn't really the Remaster team's fault. Overall, a basically flawless rendition of the classic Guy presentation. The only thing I think I can really fault on presentation is that some songs start at different points in the game compared to the original, but this is such a minor thing that it barely even effects the game as a whole. Some others were confused by this, however I think the change was wonderful and actually prefer this version to the shorter song.
One thing I would like to mention is that, during the final castle of the guy, the song has been changed to be the full rendition of the song rather than the one that eliminates the intro.
From the windows XP screen border to the now updated Gamemaker 8 errors, a near perfect visual and audio update really shines through in this Remaster.
Regardless, though, the Remaster team took the already decent game and skyrocketed the presentation far beyond what anyone expected a guy remake to be. It's kind of cheating, though, considering it is just IWBTG but with bug fixes and more stuff. This has to be one of the highest production fangames to come out of 2020. Heck, it even has Kayin on the maker team! The original IWBTG fell flat in a bunch of areas, which isn't something a remake could fix, and thus this probably won't ever have a perfect score, however, this game has such promising potential that anyone interested even remotely in IWBTG can and should play this over the original. There are even new eastereggs to find, meaning even older members of the community can and will find enjoyment playing this. Not only is it just a Yuuutu port of I Wanna Be The Guy, but it also features multiple bug fixes, engine difference patches, and general quality of life changes. If you were someone who was turned off from the original due to the multiple shortcomings it featured, this is the game for you.
I think it's safe to say I Wanna Be The Guy is something every fangamer who's been around for at least a year has played. Everyone has always asked when someone would do it, and someone finally did.
